Oregon Bankers Education Foundation & Pacific Coast Banking School Announce Recipient of ‘Rise Above the Rest™’ Scholarship The Oregon Bankers Association’s (OBA) Education Foundation and Pacific Coast Banking School (PCBS) are pleased to announce the recipient of the 2018 Rise Above the Rest™ Scholarship. Chris Hemmings of Summit Bank in Eugene has been awarded the multi-year scholarship aimed at promoting advanced education for high-potential employees in the financial services industry. Hemmings’ banking career began in 2008, soon after obtaining his political science and economics degree from University of Oregon. In his current role as vice president, controller and senior operations manager, Hemmings oversees the bank’s internal accounting functions as well as deposit operations and depository regulatory compliance. He also works with the bank’s Treasury Management team to enhance Summit’s operational and eBanking infrastructure. Summit Bank employs many PCBS graduates, but Hemmings will be the first individual sponsored by the bank to attend the school. Outside of his professional career, Hemmings is an active volunteer for Food of Lane County and United Way of Lane County, and he is a former coach for the Special Olympics. Hemmings is a member of OBA’s Government Relations Committee and a 2013 recipient of Eugene’s “20 Under 40” award for emerging business leaders in the Eugene area. Hemmings will begin his enrollment at the three-year PCBS in August. He and other participants will attend an intensive two-week resident session each August for three consecutive summers. Founded in 1938, PCBS teaches the business of banking, offering graduate-level financial and risk management education hand-in-hand with strong leadership training. This prestigious school boasts over 11,000 alumni, with hundreds serving as leaders of financial institutions. “It is an honor and a privilege to have received the Rise Above the Rest™ scholarship. As a strong advocate for Oregon banking, it is humbling and gratifying that both the OBA and Summit Bank have recognized my passion for this industry,” stated Hemmings. “I look forward to beginning the program in August and taking full advantage of the tremendous opportunity that I have been afforded.” Congratulations to Chris Hemmings, recipient of the 2018 Rise Above the Rest™ Scholarship!
