OBA Education Foundation Presents Melody Bell with Financial Education Champion Award The Oregon Bankers Asssociation’s (OBA) Education Foundation (“Foundation”) presented Melody Bell, founder and chief executive officer of Financial Beginnings, with its first-ever Financial Education Champion Award at a luncheon held December 4 in Portland. This award recognizes an individual or organization who has made a lasting impact on financial education in the state of Oregon. Bell uniquely stands out in Oregon as a leader in financial education. In 2005, she founded the financial literacy nonprofit Financial Beginnings to provide accessible and unbiased financial education to youth and adults. Through volunteers and supporters, Financial Beginnings is able to deliver its financial education programs at no cost. Financial Beginnings’ unique model relies on volunteer instructors, many of which come from the banking industry. The nonprofit now educates over 40,000 individuals annually and is working to grow that number through Financial Beginnings affiliates across the country.
