The Oregon Bankers Association (OBA) welcomes lobbyist John C. Powell of John Powell & Associates to its team representing the banking industry in the Oregon legislative and regulatory arenas. Powell joins OBA as a contract lobbyist. Powell is a native Oregonian and a lawyer who earned his B.A. in political science from Westmont College in Santa Barbara. Following college, Powell was appointed by the President of the United States and served as a member of the White House staff performing research in a variety of areas. After his stint in the federal government, Powell came back to Oregon and enrolled at both Willamette University’s College of Law and Atkinson Graduate School of Management where he earned both a JD and MBA. Following law and business school, Powell joined his father’s government relations practice in Salem, Oregon. In addition to the OBA and the Community Banks of Oregon, Powell’s clients include other associations and regulated businesses like Portland General Electic, AT&T and Standard Insurance Company. In addition to Powell, the OBA has three registered lobbyists supporting advocacy work on behalf of Oregon’s banking industry. These individuals include: Kevin Christiansen, SVP & Government Affairs Director, Oregon Bankers Association Linda Navarro, President & Chief Executive Officer, Oregon Bankers Association Tim Martinez, Contract Lobbyist, Martinez & Sons "There are so many issues that impact banks and their customers.
